Szputnyik bazaar invites lovers of vintage clothing
from around the world
Sparkly belts from the '70s and T-shirts from the, '50s line the walls of Szputnyik, a fashion shop in downtown Budapest.
The Szputnyik Bazaar, located at Bakáts tér 8 in District IX, was opened in 2009 and is described as a crazy playground of unique clothes, costumes and accessories.
Fashion lovers and treasure hunters who visit Budapest will spend hours exploring this two-story shop. The top floor is stocked with vintage shoes, dresses, jackets and hats, while the lower floor is stashed with newly designed tanks, leggings, jewelry and more.
The name of the store was inspired by Haruki Murakami’s book "Sputnik Sweetheart," where the main character names her love Sputnik who accompanies her on her travels. Similarly, the store wants shoppers to think of its clothes as travel companions.
Prices vary, but bargain hunters are sure to find fashionable treasures for under $10. More expensive items, like leather jackets and dresses from the, '40s to now can be purchased as well.
The store is known for both its vintage and modern pieces for men and women, which can be mixed and matched to reflect individual shoppers’ styles and personalities.
Vintage shoppers who want to get a head start on purchasing some of Szputnyik’s treasures can order items online as well.
The Szputnyik Bazaar is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.
Every visit to Szputnyik is sure to leave shoppers with a new treasure – handbags, chunky earrings, custom-designed tanks, studded boots and more. Anyone with a sense of treasure and adventure will enjoy an hour or two exploring Szputnyik.
